Human beings are hardwired to sing. Singing is a powerful force in a child’s life and the benefits are well documented. Singing promotes hauora, creativity, learning and self-confidence in tamariki.

With funding from the Ministry for Culture & Heritage, the NZ Choral Federation has designed a new series of twelve videos called Let's Get Singing, to help primary and intermediate school teachers foster a love of singing in their classrooms.

In each video, a dynamic presenter will lead a series of physical and vocal warm-ups before teaching a song, step-by-step. Alongside each 15–20-minute video, there's a sing-along 'karaoke’ video, a separate backing track, sheet music, and handy teachers’ notes, so teachers can keep their classes singing and learning beyond the first video viewing.

The first three videos are live now, featuring Elisha Fa’i-So’oialo teaching her own song, ‘E lanu moana ma olaola’, Megan Flint teaching ‘Raise Up Your Voices’ by Suzzie Vango, and Te Ohorere Williams teaching ‘Ngā Iwi E’ by Hirini Melbourne. A further nine videos will be added to the collection by mid-2024.
