Principal

St Mary's College Wellington is a Catholic state-integrated girls’ school founded by the Sisters of Mercy.  We seek a strong leader and educationalist to serve as principal and take the school forward with passion, energy and bold strategic vision. As our principal, you will shape and influence the lives of young women, providing them with a quality education and the skills they need to thrive in the world.  

We are looking for someone who is committed to their faith and will be dedicated to the growth of the school's Mercy based Catholic character and the development of Catholic education. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, students and our community. Your leadership will be driven by a strong sense of compassion, integrity, diversity and inclusivity.  

Key responsibilities:

- Lead the delivery of a high quality curriculum that is designed for our student community.

- Grow staff capability, with a focus on attracting and retaining quality education professionals.

- Foster the school's special character and Catholic education.

- Work effectively and collaboratively with our school boards and community.

- Effective and efficient operational management of the school. 

Applicants must meet the Aotearoa New Zealand Principal Eligibility Criteria. 

St Mary's College is located in Thorndon, Wellington with a rich history dating back to 1850. The current roll is approx. 550 students.

This is a tagged Cl47 special character position. The successful applicant will be required to take part in religious instruction appropriate to the school’s special character as a condition of appointment.

We anticipate interviewing candidates on Saturday 1 June, 2024. The start date for the role will then be negotiated with the successful applicant.
