Manurewa East School has this year begun to teach all of our tamariki through a ‘dual language model of simultaneous acquisition’ using the tuakana-teina model. All of our classes are Y0 to Y6–7 and every classroom learns two languages.
PTSA registered allowance and 1 language unit are part of the remuneration package.
At present our makeup is as follows:
2 x Tongan and English classes
2 x Samoan and English Classes
2 x Cook Island Maori and English Classes
7 x te reo Māori and English Classes.
We seek to employ Scale A teachers who are resilient, solution-focused and understand service to the community. You will have a good understanding of NZC levels 1 to 4. You must be able to show a commitment to being culturally responsive and to demonstrate the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of Te Ao Māori and the ability to support whānau.
If you are a PCT, this may be an excellent opportunity to build resilience and learn quickly how to teach levels 1 to 4 of NZC. We work extremely hard all of the time for our tamariki and beginning your teaching journey in an environment like ours may set you in good stead for your chosen career and advancement within the profession.
Most of all, you will be hardworking and have the personal attributes (soft skills) needed for success on the job such as, time management, networking, teamwork, creative thinking, conflict resolution and are committed to the teaching profession.
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you, nau mai haere mai!
