Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is the nationwide provider of education services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) learners. We have a focus on growth, learning and collaboration. The learners and their whānau are at the core of everything we do.
THE ROLE / TE MAHI
We are seeking a dedicated, innovative person who has strong communication skills, is a collaborative team player and can relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
You will be required to travel to mainstream schools, Early Childhood Centres, Kura and Kohanga Reo to work closely with DHH students, whānau and school staff/teams to support learners.
You will need to take responsibility for managing your assigned caseload, maintaining up to date assessment, planning and student records, liaise with whānau, school and community agencies to support student participation and success in their education and life outcomes.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION / NGĀ HERENGA MŌ TE MAHI
Proven best practice and experience working with Deaf children and/or working with mainstream children.
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with learners, whānau, schools and other stakeholders.
Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or an experienced NZ registered teacher.
Current, clean drivers licence.
Use of own car with mileage reimbursed. Depending on expected weekly mileage a lease car may be provided for your work travel.
Must reside within easy access to the advertised region and be willing to travel to support a designated caseload.
You will have existing skills, or demonstrate a willingness to develop proficiency, in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and listening and spoken language practices for DHH learners.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and upholding the principles of Te Tiriti within teaching practice.
