Takapuna Normal Intermediate School, a vibrant intermediate school in the heart of Auckland's North Shore, seeks a fixed-term full-time, dedicated, and enthusiastic materials technology teacher to join our specialist team. This position may become permanent when position commences.

About the role:

In this exciting role, you will play a key part in our developing Specialist teaching department, inspiring students in Y7 and 8 to explore the fascinating world of materials technology. You'll develop engaging and hands-on lessons introducing students to various materials, their properties, and how they can be used to design and create functional and innovative products.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver creative and curriculum-aligned materials technology programs for Y7 and 8.
• Integrate Te Ao Māori and sustainability principles into your teaching.
• Provide safe and effective instruction in using tools and equipment within the materials technology workshops.
• Foster a positive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
• Build strong relationships with students, parents, and whānau.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the specialist curriculum at TNIS.

We are looking for someone who:

• Possesses a relevant teaching qualification in materials technology or a closely related field.
• Has experience teaching materials technology or a similar subject at the intermediate level.
• Demonstrates a strong understanding of child development and effective teaching methodologies.
• Is passionate about fostering creativity, innovation, and problem-solving in students.
• Enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues and whānau.
• Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
