He Māpuna te Tamaiti: Supporting Social and Emotional Competence in Early Learning. Social and Emotional competence enables children to interact with peers in a variety of ways and contexts and to maintain positive relationships with peers and adults, both of which are critical for future success. It is through these positive relationships that children learn best. This workshop will include a range of practical and flexible strategies including establishing consistent routines, developing care and empathy for others, self- regulation skills, building resilience, fostering peer friendships, and supporting children to manage their learning. We will explore how children's developing social and emotional competence is linked to the disposition to be resilient.
