Big Steps Educare is a warm and welcoming rural, not for profit, community-based early childhood centre in the beautiful Waikouaiti, East Otago only 25-30 minutes drive from Dunedin. We have a long serving team of 8 kaiako and are well supported by a governing committee. Big Steps Educare provides high quality care and education to children aged 0-6, with environments for both under 2’s and over 2’s.

Job description

We are currently seeking a competent, passionate and relationship orientated centre manager to lead our wonderful team of kaiako at Big Steps Educare. The position is approximately 30% office hours/managerial tasks and 70% teaching in the learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the centre, ensuring high-quality care and education for all children.
• Ensure compliance with current ECE licensing and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Foster positive relationships in the community and with families/whanau, actively engaging them in their child's learning journey.
• Support the development and implementation of a child-led curriculum that aligns with Te Whāriki and reflects our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Requirements

• B Ed/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE) and current Teacher Certification Category One or Two.
• Strong knowledge of Ministry of Education Licensing Criteria, 2008 Regulations, and The Standards and Code of Ethics.
• Proficiency in computer literacy, experience working with Infocare and Microsoft programs preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience and skills in leading and contributing to Appraisal/Professional Growth Cycles, Internal Evaluation, Strategic and Annual Planning.
