Northland Kindergarten Association (NKA) seeks a Head Teacher to lead a committed team of teachers at Waitangi Kindergarten. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspirational and innovative person with proven leadership skills.
Waitangi kindergarten’s programme has a strong lens of sustainability, the kindergarten is an Enviroschool. The team at Waitangi Kindergarten are committed to a child focused, child initiated, play and resource-based curriculum, embracing the principles of the national early childhood curriculum Te Whariki.
This kindergarten is located on significant whenua, close to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. NKA seeks a leader who is confident to engage successfully with local hapu and provide ākonga, kaiako and educators with opportunities to build their teaching capability knowledge and skills in te reo māori and tikanga māori, and support implementation in the programme and curriculum.
Waitangi Kindergarten has a team of 4 teachers and a part-time administrator. The kindergarten operates five 6-hour sessions Monday to Friday catering for 30 children between two and six years of age. Waitangi kindergarten serves attending families from the wider Bay of Islands community (from Russell to Kawakawa and everywhere in between).
Waitangi Kindergarten is part of a network of 25 kindergartens within the NKA. The kindergarten is supported by a professional practice and management team.
Northland Kindergarten Association adheres to the employment conditions as offered in the Kindergarten Teachers, Head Teachers and Senior Teachers Collective Agreement 2023–2026.
Applicants must hold a recognized NZ ECE qualification, current practicing certificate and a first aid certificate.
