Due to roll growth in our Outreach Services, Mt Richmond Special School is seeking two experienced teachers skilled in working with students with intellectual disabilities. These positions will start as soon as possible within term 2, 2024.
The successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills and are passionate about supporting students in the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS) in mainstream schools. The special needs outreach teacher works as part of the student’s support team, which includes their class teachers, MOE special education staff, support staff and family/whānau.
The role may encompass a range of activities, including:
Teaching, assessing and developing programmes
Monitoring progress and next steps
Modelling, supporting teachers and support staff
Contributing to IEPs, whānau meetings
Twice-yearly reports.
The successful candidates will have the following:
Current NZ teacher registration
Experience working 1:1 with special needs students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities (ORS funded)
Ability to establish collaborative relationships with staff in Mt Richmond School and the mainstream school, sharing ideas and innovative practice
Excellent interpersonal skills
A clean, full NZ driver licence.

The base salary range for trained and registered teachers is dependent on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. An individual’s actual base salary will be established by a salary assessment once a role is confirmed (see Part 3: Remuneration in the 2022-2025 PTCA collective agreement).
