More than 2,800 teachers of year 7 to 10 students in New Zealand answered questions about themselves and their work, for the OECD’s Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS). More than 34 countries took part.
The training and experience of New Zealand educators are among the best; 99 per cent have completed a teacher education or teacher training programme, compared to 90 per cent overseas.
The typical New Zealand principal brings a wealth of experience to the role; with an average of 12 years as a principal, and 26 as a teacher. This compares to the international average of 9 years as a principal and 21 as a teacher.
