Literacy Leader

Whangaparāoa College is located 35 minutes north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast with a school roll of 1,803 learners from Y7 to Y13. The college has outstanding facilities, a committed and talented staff, and a focus on learner achievement.

This newly established role offers an exciting opportunity to a strong and aspirational leader with a passion for literacy. In response to identified need, the Literacy Lead will support learner achievement, engagement and wellbeing by strengthening intervention initiatives and school-wide teaching practice within the area of literacy. 12 hours teaching, 8 hours release time.

The successful applicant will lead and coordinate Within School Literacy Leaders, literacy teachers, curriculum leaders, and the wider teaching staff to successfully embed impactful and sustainable literacy practices at Whangaparāoa College. This will include applying evidence-based approaches, planning professional development, and supporting the school’s effective teaching practice based on culturally responsive relationship-based teaching.

School Leaders must embody Āhuatanga Whangaparāoa, and be committed to ensuring staff and learners embrace this and our school vision and values. Appropriate professional development for the successful applicant will be supported.

This is an exciting time to join our college as we respond to our recent curriculum review, embedding culturally responsive pedagogy and enhancing mana ōrite mō te Mātauranga Māori. We also have a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and developing rich curriculum knowledge to increase learner engagement and achievement at all year levels.
