We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled professional to join our team as the head of department (HOD) for English and literacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the department's curriculum, managing staff, and ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning. This is a leadership role that requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in English education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the English and literacy department, including planning, implementing, and reviewing the curriculum.
  • Supervise and support teaching staff, providing mentorship.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that educational standards are met and exceeded.
  • Collaborate with other departments and senior management to integrate literacy across the curriculum.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.
  • Stay current with educational trends and best practices in English and literacy instruction. 

Qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in English or a related field. 
  • Proven experience in teaching English and literacy at a secondary level
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment practices, and educational standards.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff.
