About our school

We are an independent Anglican primary school in the heart of Christchurch city. We are seeking a director of music who is keen to be part of our vibrant musical community.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching excellence: Deliver engaging, high-quality music instruction to students of various ages and skill levels. There is a classroom teaching component to this role.
• Ensemble management: Oversee and direct various ensemble groups, bands and orchestras, ensuring effective rehearsals and outstanding performances.
• Organisational skills: Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality music events for the community, demonstrating strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Itinerant programme oversight: Oversee our itinerant music programme, ensuring an excellent experience for students receiving individual or small-group instruction.
• Community engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, parents and the broader community, inspiring enthusiasm and support for our music programme.

Person specification

• Experience: Proven experience as a music educator with a successful track record in leading ensembles and orchestras.
• Musicianship: Exceptional musical talent and proficiency in multiple instruments or vocal performance.
• Teaching: Demonstrated ability to teach effectively, with a strong grasp of pedagogy and student engagement strategies.
• Organisation: Highly organised, efficient and capable of managing a dynamic schedule.
• Inspirational leadership: A genuine passion for inspiring and motivating students and staff, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
