Preschool head teacher

BestStart Leeds Street is seeking a passionate and dedicated qualified and registered teacher to join our energetic and tight-knit team as our new head teacher in our preschool room. 

BestStart Leeds Street is conveniently situated in the inner city of Wellington. However, we believe our learning environment extends beyond our property and into the surrounding city. We are urban explorers and can be seen out and about the central city every week. We aim to empower all of our tamariki to learn through a holistic lens.

About the role:  

This is a fixed-term position, ending in May 2025, working 40 hours Monday-Friday  

You will be leading our team in the preschool room, a mixed aged space for our 2-5 year old tamariki. This is a fantastic space to let the creative juices flow. Lots of space to build, construct, create and get immersed in a world of learning through play. 

We have a wonderful centre environment with varied learning spaces, we have the option of sharing these spaces with all ages and stages or we can turn them into smaller pockets for play for more concentrated learning experiences. We are also lucky enough to have outdoor spaces that are covered so we can enjoy the outdoors even on the windy Wellington days! 

Role requirements:  

As well as:  

• BEd/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE or Primary) and current Teacher Certification  
• A strong understanding of programme planning, pedagogy and curriculum  
• Good knowledge of the current ECE Regulations, Te Whariki and hold compliance in a high regard.
