Science teacher

The Catlins Area School has a full-time, permanent position for a science teacher with experience in delivering NCEA courses. 

There are up to two (2) permanent management units available for suitable applicants who aspire to educational leadership. This position will start at the beginning of 2025.

Teachers with strengths in one or more of Biology, Agriculture, Horticulture and/ or Chemistry are encouraged to apply. We‌ especially‌ welcome applications from teachers who have experience in or are willing to teach junior and/or NCEA secondary programmes in other learning areas. Although secondary-focused, flexibility with the age and level you teach is advantageous in an area school.

The Catlins Area School is focussed on delivery high quality learning programmes. Our NCEA classes are small and well resourced allowing for teacher’s to develop rich programmes of learning that are both engaging and provide opportunities for students to achieve to their highest educational potential.

The successful applicant will be able to motivate and inspire their learners, develop positive relationships with our staff, students and whānau and have strong curriculum and assessment knowledge. They will also have high expectations for all learners, be committed to professional growth, and be excited about the opportunity of being part of our Y1–13 area school learning community.

The Catlins Area School is located in Owaka, the gateway to The Catlins. Owaka is a twenty-minute drive from Balclutha, and an hour and twenty minutes from Dunedin.
