Titiro Whakamua Looking Forward Early Childhood Centre is a unique community-based centre established to support the Titiro Whakamua Teen Parent School (which is a secondary school educational facility for teen parents in the Hutt Valley).

We are looking for a head teacher who can:

• Provide professional support, advice and leadership to teachers which reflects current education principles and recent developments in education theory and research.
• Provide overall responsibility on policy, procedures and ensuring criteria and legislation is maintained.  
• Lead educational and professional discussions and development within the team.
• Acquire and disseminate knowledge and skills in areas relevant to early childhood education, to their team.
• Manage teacher and teaching team professional growth cycles within their team.
• Identify and provide professional development opportunities.
• Support all mentors and provisionally registered teachers.
• Manage professional development and leave processes.

You will:

• Be fully registered.
• Have the ability to lead a team with a high degree of autonomy.
• Display qualities of tact, discretion, reliability, integrity.
• Be accepting of the wide diversity of abilities and circumstances which will be evident in the wider ECE community.
• Have excellent communication skills.
• Be committed to providing high-quality early childhood education.
• Show a commitment to the values of Titiro Whakauma Teen Parent Unit and its unique commitment to the community.
• Hold a current first aid certificate.

The core functions are to:

• Effectively implement a rich learning programme through the use of the assessment, planning and evaluation of learning and teaching.
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the centre and to;
• Facilitate the development of relationships with children, whānau, colleagues and the wider community.
