Advisor on deaf children
Are you a current AODC, a resource teacher of the deaf or an SLT looking for a lifestyle change?
We are looking for an advisor on deaf children to be part of a close-knit, whānau-based and community-focused team.
The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga, including promoting tikanga and te reo Māori is essential.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies:
- A Master of Specialist Teaching (Adviser on Deaf Children, or Deaf and Hard of Hearing) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching (Deaf and Hard of Hearing), or equivalent
- Or: teacher of the deaf qualifications (postgraduate diploma or equivalent)
- Or: speech language therapy qualifications (master’s or bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Therapy, or equivalent)
- And: be willing to undertake the master’s programme of study for Adviser on Deaf Children/Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The following would support your application:
- Knowledge and experience in the development, education and audiological management of tamariki who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Experience and knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language and a commitment to ongoing learning of New Zealand Sign Language
- Experience in and willingness to work collaboratively and support other education professionals and agencies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with children, young people and their whānau, and professionals, across a range of settings
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
A full current driver licence is essential as travel across the region is a requirement of this role.
