The Zero Waste Zone - Waitākere Refuse Transfer Station,

Part-time one-year fixed term, 24 hours per week, term time only

Do you have a passion for sustainability and working with tamariki in te taiao?

Auckland Council Experience Centres are seeking an experienced educator to deliver curriculum-based, hands-on learning experiences at the Zere Waste Zone 

The opportunity

  • Provide experiential learning sessions for students, teachers and adults that empower waste reduction at school or home
  • Work 24 hours over four days a week at The Zero Waste Zone

Key criteria

  • Planning, delivery and facilitation of education sessions for schools at all year levels, including early childhood, and occasionally to community groups
  • Flexibility to work on a set roster basis over four days a week during school term time
  • Assist with programme and resource development, maintenance and up-keep, including gardening maintenance where required
  • Host community members, council staff, representatives and guests visiting the sites
  • Comply with health and safety policies, procedures and practices
  • Attend training, professional development and meetings
  • Assist with training new educators

Qualifications and experience

  • Environmental / sustainability background
  • Teaching qualifications preferred, but not essential
  • Experience working with rangatahi, preferably in the outdoors
  • Excellent communication and group facilitation skills
  • Understanding of mātauranga Māori
  • Strong Health & Safety practice
  • Ability to contribute to coordination, maintenance and administration of programmes.
