Mangakōtukutuku College, a new and vibrant school in Hamilton, is seeking a dynamic and visionary learning area leader for mathematics. Our school is guided by the values of whaimana (pursuing prestige and honour), whaiora (pursuing health and wellbeing), and whaiara (pursuing a pathway) and the successful learning area leader will ensure that these values are embedded within their learning area. 

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and inspire the mathematics team to implement a forward-thinking and engaging maths curriculum
• Foster a learning environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and a passion for mathematics
• Support the professional growth of team members through coaching, mentoring and collaboration
• Champion culturally responsive practices that respect and incorporate the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our students.

Ideal candidate:

• Proven experience in teaching mathematics with a track record of success in leadership roles
• Strong understanding of the New Zealand mathematics curriculum and current educational best practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and the community
• Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices and an inclusive learning environment
• Commitment to the values of whaimana, whaiora, and whaiara, and to fostering a school culture that reflects these principles.
