‘Waiho i te taha katau o te rā, o te marama, o kōpū rere ai...’ – Kupe
Te Kāpehu Whetū or the “Māori Star Compass”, is the name of our Kura based in Whangārei. The name, given to us by Matua Hekenukumai Busby, combined with Kupe’s directions act as a metaphoric guide for us, empowering our ākonga to Be Māori, Be Educated, Be Rangatira, so that they can navigate their futures and stand confidently on the marae and in the world.
The position
Te Kāpehu Whetū seek a science teacher capable of teaching ākonga from Y9–13. The position will focus on developing a strong foundation in the sciences and designing a curriculum tailored to meet our NCEA standards and preferences. The ideal candidate will have expertise or standard knowledge in Taiao (environment), biology, health, or STEM subjects, and will be able to effectively engage ākonga in these areas of study.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
Ideally, proficient in Te Reo Māori or committed to working in an integrated immersion environment
A science graduate would be given preference
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Be available to begin the position in term 3, 2024
Ability to collaborate and engage effectively with staff, ākonga and our wider kura community.
Requirements:
Wharekura, Certificated teacher, minimum holder of a New Zealand Practising certificate
MUST be a New Zealand citizen, reside or have already secured the right to work in New Zealand, and therefore, hold a valid visa.
