Kaiako/early learning teacher

We are looking for an enthusiastic newly qualified kaiako/teacher to nurture and guide. We believe your newly acquired knowledge will support and add value to our fun, experienced and passionate team. We are attached to the Taonga Teen Parent Unit in Clendon; and we are Potiki Early Childhood Centre. We have been a part of the community since 2004. Our service is unique in the fact that half of our pēpi/babies’ mama are next door completing their secondary school education with James Cook High School. The mama visit their pēpi in between their lessons.

The other half of our tamariki are from the community. Our kaimahi/staff live locally and are also part of the community.

We value positive, reciprocal and responsive relationships between all members of our learning community (tamariki/children, family/whānau, and kaiako/teachers).

We value the Māori learning concept of tuakana-teina, which emphasises reciprocal relationships where children and teachers play both a teaching and learning role within the learning community. Young children can learn from older children and vice-a-versa, emphasising the importance of each child’s uniqueness, value, and contribution.

We respect and care for our cultures, beliefs, values and views of all children, parents, whānau and teachers.
