The Tertiary High is an exciting secondary school structure that functions within MIT – and offers Y11–13 ākonga a second chance to re-engage with NCEA Levels 1-3. We offer achievement standard school-based subjects providing pathways for ākonga to complete their secondary education through NCEA and the transition into a tertiary qualification when appropriate. 

We seek a principal who is committed to innovation, change and new opportunities for young people. Supporting disengaged or disaffected ākonga through to successful educational outcomes you will have experience in working with diverse ākonga, ensuring that the school provides, promotes and ensures that ākonga welfare and process is the highest priority. It is expected that you provide professional leadership and represent the needs of ākonga academically, socially and liaise with relative support services and participating schools to meet ākonga needs.

You will lead a team of committed teachers who thrive on motivating and engaging ākonga to achieve to high standards. Managing professional development and providing direction to the team will give you an opportunity to showcase your relationship skills and academic prowess. A consummate communicator you will support staff to engage with culturally responsive learning and teaching strategies and coordinate cross faculty professional learning discussions and workshops to share effective practice, with a strong focus on developing accountability and ownership of ākonga outcomes with kaimahi.

This role would suit a strategic thinker to lead the school and contribute to MIT's marketing strategy, school strategy plan and implement the budget and resources and ensure there is succession planning within the school.

The successful applicant will demonstrate hands-on approach bringing operational expertise, including advice relating to policies, procedures and business processes will be an important component of the role.
