Position overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate social sciences teacher with a specialisation in classical studies to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality lessons to students in Y7 to 13, inspiring a love for classical history, culture, and literature.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective and engaging lessons.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and resources.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and school events, contributing to the wider school community.
  • Integrate bicultural perspectives into the curriculum, reflecting the unique cultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Stay updated with current educational trends and best practices in Classical Studies and social sciences, including the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum and the new NCEA standards. 

Qualifications and experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification. 
  • A recognised teaching qualification and current registration with the New Zealand Teaching Council.
  • Proven experience teaching classical studies at the secondary school level is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for lifelong learning.
  • An understanding of and commitment to bicultural education and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
