Māori medium kaiako

Te Kura Tūwaenga o Whakatū - Nelson Intermediate School is a vibrant future focused school in the heart of Nelson. Te Pītau Whakarei, our Māori medium pathway, is seeking a positive and enthusiastic kaiako to work with groups of ākonga providing support with literacy and pāngarau. Applicants will work with three other kaiako to build strong relationships with ākonga and whānau. The successful applicant will show experience in placing students at the centre of their practice and have an understanding of what it is to be an innovative, culturally responsive kaiako.   

Kaiako at Nelson Intermediate School will:   

• Establish and maintain engaging relationships with ākonga, staff and whānau.   
• Have a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.   
• Develop a culturally relational and responsive classroom environment.   
• Work co-operatively and collaboratively with staff and whānau.   
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.   
• Have sound knowledge of the NZ Curriculum or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and use effective pedagogy to support its implementation.   
• Engage in a professional growth cycle to effectively enhance high student outcomes.   
• Support the school vision and values.   
• Participate in wider school activities.
