An ability to teach senior chemistry would be helpful, but not essential. You will be joining a well-resourced, innovative, supportive science department.

Timaru Girls’ High School was established in 1880. We are a strong community school that places an emphasis on building healthy relationships with every girl. Our four guiding pou are:

  • Tūrangawaewae – community
  • Mana Wahine – leadership
  • Whai Ako – learning culture
  • Mana Tuku Iho – heritage.

TGHS is a state day and boarding school catering for girls from Y9–13.

15% of our students declare themselves as Māori, and our Pasifika community makes up 7% of our student roll.

The school is situated in the heart of Timaru, an attractive city of 48,400 people, on the east coast of the South Island about half-way between Christchurch and Dunedin. As well as being located on the coastline within minutes of the beach and harbour, Timaru provides easy access to the mountains, lakes and ski fields of the Mackenzie country little more than an hour inland.
