Te Aratika Academy is a designated character boy’s high school located at Whakatu, Hastings, in Hawke’s Bay. The school provides education for predominantly Māori tāne from Y9–13. We deliver a mātauranga Māori experiential programme, using kaupapa Māori pedagogical approaches, with a strong vocational focus.
Te Aratika Academy is part of the Te Aratika Group, providing a seamless education journey from ‘Cradle to Career’ through our entities Te Aratika Academy, Te Aratika Industry Training, our Private Training Establishment, Te Aratika Infrastructure, Te Aratika Creative, and currently under development, our immersion te reo Māori Early Learning Centre.
We are seeking a pou arahi who embodies our values of whakapono, tumanako, me te aroha, and is committed to excellence and driving academic and social outcomes for taiohi.
The successful applicant will:
Be a NZ registered teacher
Have a collaborative, empowering, and tauira-focused approach
Have a strong commitment to understanding and connecting with their peers, tauira, hapū, hapori, and iwi
Be passionate about advancing the aspirations of Māori- one person, one family, one community at a time
Demonstrate a culturally sustaining approach to practice, with a focus on equity
Understand how to give effect to He Whakaputanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to achieve excellent outcomes for taiohi
Have excellent knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and assessment practices, with a focus on NCEA Levels 1-3.
Management allowances will be available depending on experience. Position is currently listed as 0.2; an increase in this role may be negotiated depending on actual scope.
The terms and conditions for this position are set by the Secondary Teachers Collective Agreement.
