Kōwhai Specialist School in Hastings is growing our speech language therapy team and are looking for someone to join them!
We are passionate about communication and AAC, dysphagia support, trauma-informed practice and neurodiversity. Our three current Speech Language Therapists are all CAT 1 trained and are looking for someone with an interest in this area.
This position is full-time 1.0 FTTE, permanent. The start date is flexible but ideally at the beginning of Term 3, 2024. Conditions of employment, including remuneration, are covered by the Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement.
The position involves working collaboratively as part of our therapy team that includes occupational therapy, physiotherapy, music therapy and a therapy assistant. Work is across 7 different sites with students aged between 5-21. We also have access to a large purpose-built therapy space, onsite pool, RDA nearby, school gymnasium, bike track and school vehicles to support regular community outings. There will be opportunities to be involved in High-Tech AAC groups, Attention Autism programmes, Food School, and AAC coaching playgroups. Our therapy team and management are always open to new ideas and initiatives for therapy delivery.
Therapists working at Kōwhai Specialist School have access to formal fortnightly supervision and many informal opportunities as well. Professional Development is well supported and current staff have been provided opportunities with courses such as SOS Feeding, Hanen, Makaton Training, international ISAAC Conferences, and national networking opportunities.
