Teaching Writing: The 'what' and 'how' of effective instruction

Professional development (PD) New Zealand (nationwide)

Posted: 05 August 2024
Notice reference #: 1HAhbF

In this workshop we will cover all the key elements of an effective writing programme, including evidence-based methods for teaching the technical skills (handwriting, spelling, and sentence structure) and best practice for teaching composition (the students writing their own, original ideas). All participants will receive copies of key resources, including my spelling programme, a guide to teaching sentence structure, and my scope and sequence of writing goals.

I am an experienced teacher, researcher, and professional learning facilitator, with 20 years' experience teaching in New Zealand schools. All my methods are grounded in science-based research. They are also practical, and fun.

Previous attendees have said:

'Honestly incredible. I have mentioned it to all the literacy leaders I know.'

'The workshop was well organised and followed a natural sequence. It was clear, practical, and easy to understand. You shared a wealth of knowledge, including practical ideas, demonstrations, and resources.'
