We are excited to announce our brand-new, free professional development opportunity for teachers.
Explore – Key civics concepts, how our New Zealand Parliament functions, and how members of the public can participate in our democratic system.
Engage – In interactive activities and discussions to help you connect these concepts within your classroom.
Experience - Being part of a community of educators passionate about empowering their students to be informed active participants in society.
Set over two sessions these offer a chance to:
Reflect on research-based analysis of civics understanding in New Zealand
Increase your own knowledge of our Parliament and how it functions
Learn about the Education Team at New Zealand Parliament, and how they can support classroom learning
Gain a solid understanding of what an educational visit to Parliament looks like
Engage in a collaborative planning session to empower you to integrate civics education into your classroom
Session one
Session one will be an introduction to work of the education team at Parliament, an opportunity to engage with a community of teachers interested in civics education, and a micro lesson on Parliament to upskill and empower you to take this knowledge back to your classroom.
Session two
In session two our educators will introduce you to some engaging activities you can take back to your own classroom. Followed by our educators leading you through a collaborative planning process to equip you with a solid understanding of what teaching this within a classroom environment can look like. You will leave this session with tangible activities, lessons and unit plan ideas you can launch right into with your learners.
These sessions will be hosted virtually so you can join as a team, or individually!
