Porirua College Wellington

Teacher - Praxis Education Kenepuru (PEK)

  • Full-time
  • Fixed-term (28 Jan 2027 to 27 Jan 2028)

About the role

Praxis Education Kenepuru (PEK) is the contracted provider of Alternative Education for the Porirua region, partnering with 5 local colleges. With close to 50 years of AE provision, we believe every rangatahi deserves to be seen, valued, and supported to thrive. Through meaningful relationships, shared experiences, and a strengths-based approach, we work alongside young people to re-engage in learning, discover their potential, and build confidence in themselves and their future.

“At PEK, we nurture relationships by weaving shared experiences to whakamana rangatahi.”

This vision guides everything we do. We create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment where rangatahi experience belonging, connection, and opportunities for growth. Guided by trauma-informed practice, we work collaboratively to empower young people to overcome challenges and celebrate success.

This is more than a teaching role. You will walk alongside rangatahi, building trusting relationships and creating opportunities for them to reconnect with learning, build confidence, develop a strong sense of identity, and experience success.

You will join a collaborative team that values relationships, creativity, and reflective practice. Every day is different, requiring flexibility, initiative, and a genuine commitment to meeting young people where they are.

We are looking for someone who:

  • is a secondary or primary trained teacher (would be suited to a teacher with intermediate level experience)
  • believes in the potential of every rangatahi and leads with high expectations, empathy, and genuine care
  • builds authentic, respectful relationships as the foundation for learning
  • creates meaningful opportunities that engage young people and recognise their strengths
  • brings a strengths-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach to their practice
  • enjoys working collaboratively, reflecting on practice, and contributing to a positive team culture
  • is adaptable, resilient, and committed to making a lasting difference.

The successful applicant would join our team at the start of term 1, 2027 for 1 year.
