Pūrākaunui School Otago

Classroom Teacher and LSC

  • Part-time (0.6 FTTE)
  • Permanent
  • Cultural Leadership Allowance

About the role

Pūrākaunui School is a small rural school near Port Chalmers with stunning views and a close, supportive community. All our tamariki, from new entrants to Year 8, learn together in one multi-level class using a tuakana–teina approach, where older and younger children learn from and support each other. Every child has an individual learning plan. We are an Enviroschool, and learning is hands-on and project-based, connected to our local environment. Hauora is at the heart of what we do.

Our values

Manaakitaka (kindness), Manawanui (resilience), Ako (reciprocal learning) and Kaitiaki (guardianship).

The role

A permanent 0.6 FTTE position (3 days a week), made up of:

  • 0.4 FTTE classroom teaching alongside our teaching principal
  • 0.2 FTTE Learning Support Coordinator. This is an active, hands-on role working directly with tamariki to accelerate or support their classroom learning and coordinating support with whānau and specialists.

What we’re looking for

  • An experienced, registered teacher with a full practising certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Confidence teaching Years 0–8 together in one class.
  • Experience with individual learning plans and inclusive practice.
  • A love of hands-on, project-based and outdoor learning.
  • A warm, relational and team-focused approach.

Cultural Leadership Allowance is available for the right person who can lead our te reo Māori programme and continue to foster tikanga at our school.

Starts Term 1, 2027. Contact [email protected] for a job description.

Please address these questions in your covering letter:

  • Why does a part-time position suit you?
  • How will you ensure good communication and continuity for students and colleagues across the week?
  • Are you available to relieve at our school on your non-rostered days?
  • What experience do you bring to the learning support coordinator responsibility role?
  • What strengths will you bring to our school?
