About the role

Ready for a fresh teaching opportunity in Whangārei Te Terenga Paraoa?

Join Mauri: Centre of Innovation, a small, collaborative reo rua early learning centre in Whangārei, on a five-year journey towards immersion.

Our kaupapa, “Kia tupu te mauri, kia rangatira ai te whānau”, is reflected in the warm, whānau-centred feel of our centre and the way we learn with our community. Purpose-designed movement, science, art and sensory spaces sit alongside outdoor areas for exploration. Tamariki create scrapbook portfolios and can print their own mahi in the learning space.

Our curriculum is place-based. Our current inquiry into He Whakaputanga includes haerenga to Waitangi and Whangāroa, and tamariki travel by public bus to community events, making local places and people part of learning.

As a kaiako, you’ll build responsive relationships with tamariki and whānau, contribute to intentional teaching, planning and assessment, and bring your ideas to a reflective team. Our kura kaupapa graduates bring reo Māori strengths that support the reo journeys of tamariki and kaiako. Fluency is not required. We offer funded te reo Māori professional learning.

We’re curious about human–AI collaboration. Using AI thoughtfully for suitable routine tasks while kaiako bring the relationships, professional judgement and creativity that matter in early learning.

You’ll hold a recognised ECE teaching qualification and current New Zealand practising certificate, and bring commitment to quality practice, kaupapa Māori, teamwork and ongoing learning.

We offer flexible part-time hours, negotiable to suit both you and Mauri, with potential for full-time employment. Remuneration is $57,358–$96,820 FTE, based on the applicable full pay parity step.

Apply through the link in this listing with your CV and a brief cover letter sharing one idea you’d love to explore in an innovative early learning environment.

Mauri: Centre of Innovation, 2 Shortland Street, Regent, Whangārei.
