Maketu School Bay of Plenty
Kaiako
- Full-time
- Fixed-term (27 Jan 2027 to 27 Jan 2028)
- Teacher Bond Scheme TBS
About the role
Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura o Maketu. We’re a small, dual-medium coastal kura with English-medium classrooms (Years 1- 3 and Years 4-6) and Tūterangiharuru, our Level 1 Māori-medium rūmaki pathway. Our vision, Kia tū rangatira ai, guides us as we help tamariki grow as confident learners who know who they are and where they belong.
Our coast, estuary and Te Arawa pūrākau give us rich opportunities to learn close to home, alongside whānau and kōeke.
About the role
We’re looking for a kaiako who can establish a classroom where tamariki feel known, settle into clear routines and make progress.
What we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from a kaiako who:
- Brings practical experience in structured literacy and uses assessment to decide what to teach next.
- Combines explicit teaching with intentional play and hands-on learning to build oral language, literacy and mathematical thinking.
- Builds trusting relationships with tamariki and whānau, and adapts teaching so diverse learners can participate and progress.
- Is keen to grow their use of te reo Māori and bring Te Arawa pūrākau, the Maketu coast and estuary, and local knowledge into everyday learning.
