Te Kura Tuarua o Horomaka Hillmorton High School Canterbury

Learning Support Coordinator

  • Part-time (0.6 FTTE)
  • Permanent

About the role

Starting 2027 we are seeking a learning support coordinator (LSC) to join our school.

As LSC, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and coordinating support for ākonga with diverse learning needs. Working collaboratively with kaiako, whānau, school leaders and external agencies, you will help make sure learners receive the right support at the right time.

The role will be based within our Year 7 and 8 learning area, working closely with kaiako to support the diverse learning needs of our younger ākonga as they transition into and navigate secondary schooling. The LSC will work within Phase 3 of the refreshed curriculum, so an understanding of curriculum changes, as well as structured approaches to teaching literacy and numeracy, is essential.

You will work to build the capability of teachers and strengthen our school's inclusive practices, making sure learning support is responsive, coordinated and centred on the needs, strengths and aspirations of each learner.

As LSC, you will work closely with our SENCo and the leaders of our Year 7 and 8 team.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and coordinate appropriate learning support for ākonga, supporting early identification and timely intervention.
  • Work alongside kaiako to strengthen their understanding of diverse learning needs and develop inclusive classroom practices.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with ākonga and their whānau, ensuring their perspectives and aspirations inform decisions.
  • Coordinate connections with external agencies, in conjunction with our SENCo.
  • Support the development and monitoring of individual learning plans and appropriate interventions.
  • Contribute to a whole-school approach to inclusive education, equity and belonging.
  • Advocate for learners and help remove barriers to their participation, progress and achievement.
  • Train and oversee learning assistants delivering interventions, for example, structured literacy approaches.

Also advertised is a fixed-term, part-time teaching position in our student support learning area. If you are also interested in applying for this position, we are open to negotiating around both roles being merged to make a full-time position. If you are applying for both you don't need to do 2 separate applications. Just state on the application form that you are applying for both the LSC and the LST positions.
