Wainuioru School Wellington

Kaiako (0.6–0.8)

  • Part-time (0.6 FTTE)
  • Fixed-term (2 Feb to 16 Dec 2027)

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and collaborative kaiako to join our team in a part-time (0.6–0.8) position, covering maternity leave from Term 1 2027. There is some flexibility around the days worked and the possibility of working across four days.

This is a varied role that offers the opportunity to work alongside our teaching team across the whole school. The position will include CRT/PRT/Unit release and supporting structured literacy and maths intervention groups. At times, the role will also involve stepping into classrooms to provide relief when needed.

Key qualities we are looking for:

  • Structured Literacy knowledge: Some knowledge and experience with the iDeaL platform, with an interest in supporting and delivering structured literacy intervention groups.
  • Structured Maths knowledge: Experience with structured maths approaches, particularly Numicon and PRIME Maths, would be an advantage, along with an interest in supporting small-group maths learning and building students' confidence and understanding.
  • Flexible and adaptable: Someone who enjoys variety in their day, is happy to work across different year levels and can confidently respond to the changing needs of a small school.
  • Collaborative approach: You will work alongside all of our teachers, supporting teaching and learning across the school and building positive relationships with our tamariki, whānau and team.
  • Supporting learning: An interest in working with small groups and individuals to support literacy and maths progress across the school.
  • All-in team player: Being part of a rural school means being involved in more than just what happens in the classroom. We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of wider school life, getting involved in events, house days, EOTC trips and the many opportunities that make our school community special.

There may also be an opportunity for this position to include additional units, which will be discussed further during the interview process.
