Paraparaumu College Wellington

Guidance Counsellor

  • Part-time (0.8 FTTE)
  • Permanent
  • Suitable for beginning teachers

About the role

Paraparaumu College is a highly successful coeducational school situated on the beautiful Kāpiti Coast, with a roll of approximately 1,500 students. As an innovative school we are continually inquiring into our practice to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students. Our teaching and learning are guided by the 6 principles of the PC Way: relationships of care and connectedness, collaboration, personal excellence, wellbeing, deep learning, and personalisation of learning.

We are looking for a part-time guidance counsellor to work 4 days per week (0.8 FTTE: days to be negotiated) to join our collaborative and experienced team.

We welcome applications from both registered teachers and non-teaching professionals with proven guidance counselling experience. You will understand that school counselling is deeply relational work requiring consistency, calm and active engagement. You take pride in creating a safe, positive space for young people while navigating a busy school environment with professional judgement.

The successful candidate will bring a recognised tertiary counselling qualification and current NZAC (or equivalent) registration (full or provisional).

Should you wish to discuss the role or visit the college prior to application you’re welcome to contact our HOD guidance, Steve Barnsley, via [email protected] to arrange this.

Commencement date: 28 January 2027.
