Wairakei School Waikato
Classroom Teacher (A)
- Full-time
- Fixed-term (27 Jan 2027 to 25 Jan 2028)
- Suitable for beginning teachers
About the role
Wairakei Primary School, Taupō, needs a full-time classroom teacher for the whole of 2027, covering parental leave.
The year level is settled once the school's structure for 2027 is confirmed, which means your strengths help decide where you land. Say in your cover letter what you teach best.
Expect the same backing as anyone on a permanent contract. Induction into how the school works, structured literacy in practice and professional learning are all part of the year. Leaders here would rather you asked the question than guessed.
Students here are known by name, whānau know the staff, and teachers get out on the field. Tikanga Māori are part of ordinary classroom life, guided by the POWER values (Pride, Opportunity, Whānau, Excellence, Respect).
If a year at a rural school just north of Taupō suits where you are right now, apply.
What you will bring
- A Tūturu, Pūmau or Tōmua practising certificate.
- Curiosity, initiative and the belief that every student can make progress.
- Confidence with technology, and an interest in making things work better.
- A willingness to work with whānau, and to be part of school life beyond your classroom.
- Also valued: BSLA structured literacy, Oxford Maths or Maths No Problem, and te reo Māori capability.
The role
- Year level set by the school's 2027 structure, reporting to the team leader.
- Salary under the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement 2026–2028. The salary step is set by the Executive Assistant on appointment, from an assessment of qualifications and experience.
- Appointment is subject to a current practising certificate and a satisfactory safety check under the Children's Act 2014.
School visits are welcome on school days. Book a time through the school office.
