Ako Early Learning is a smaller, owner-operated ECE service in central Tauranga. We are a mixed- age service where we keep our ratios low by design, so our kaiako have the time to build real, meaningful relationships with tamariki and their whānau. We value creating a ‘village’ for our whānau, tamariki, and kaiako where each feels a strong sense of belonging. As an owner-operated centre, staff are genuinely supported through mentorship with a strong focus on ensuring it is a positive place to work.

The role

We are looking for a qualified and registered ECE teacher with experience and confidence to step into a leadership role alongside our existing team. This is a full-time, 12-month maternity cover position starting early January 2027.

What we’re looking for

• Fully qualified and registered ECE teacher with a current practising certificate.
• Demonstrated ECE teaching experience.
• Leadership experience or a genuine readiness to step into a leadership role.
• Warm, collaborative, and professional approach.
• Strong communication skills with tamariki, whānau, and colleagues.
• Experience in a management role is advantageous but not essential.
• Knowledge of SMS platforms is advantageous but not essential.
