English and Literacy Teacher

  • Full-time
  • Permanent

About the role

Are you passionate about English, the power of language, and helping young people become confident readers, writers, thinkers and communicators?

We’re looking for an engaging and knowledgeable English and Literacy teacher to join our team as we establish a new junior college in South Auckland. We’re seeking someone who brings a strong understanding of English teaching at Years 9 and 10, alongside the expertise to identify, strengthen and extend students’ literacy skills across the junior years.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Strong English curriculum knowledge: An understanding of English teaching across the junior secondary years, including the knowledge and skills students need to develop towards Years 9 and 10 expectations.
  • Expertise in reading and writing: The ability to teach and develop comprehension, vocabulary, language knowledge, written composition, text analysis and a range of reading and writing strategies.
  • A passion for English: The ability to bring literature, storytelling, discussion, creative writing and critical thinking to life through engaging and purposeful learning experiences.
  • Responsive literacy teaching: The ability to identify diverse literacy needs, address gaps in foundational skills, and extend students who are ready for greater challenge.
  • A commitment to student growth: The ability to build confidence, foster student voice and help young people become increasingly independent and capable learners.
  • A collaborative approach: A willingness to work alongside colleagues to strengthen literacy across learning areas and contribute to the development of a coherent junior college programme.

This is an opportunity to help shape an English and literacy programme that builds strong foundations while challenging students to think critically, explore ideas, engage with literature and develop their own voice as readers, writers and communicators.
