About the role

Seeking a visionary, future-focused leader to inspire our team, engage our community, and support our learners.

Te Mata School (Raglan) is seeking an inspired, energetic, and collaborative tumuaki (principal) to lead our vibrant U4 rural primary school. This full-time, permanent position starts no later than 3 February 2027, offering an exceptional leadership opportunity for a passionate educator ready to take the next step in their career.

Situated 15 kilometres from Raglan township, Te Mata School is a full primary (Years 1 to 8) kura with a current roll of 159 students. We boast a dedicated team of 7 teaching staff across 6 learning spaces, supported by 3 support staff. Our diverse student body consists of 73% New Zealand European/Pākehā, 22% Māori, 4% Pasifika, and 1% MELAA. Rich in history, our school is deeply tied to local iwi and hapū, centered around the landmarks of Karioi mountain and Mōtakotako marae.

The successful candidate will be the heartbeat of our small rural community. We require a leader who models highly effective teaching practices and provides robust curriculum leadership across all learning areas. You will possess an authentic affinity for rural community life, fostering transparent, honest relationships based on manaaki among the Board, staff, whānau, and tamariki.

Crucially, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to strengthening Te Ao Māori, Tikanga Māori, and Te Reo Māori within our kura. Your leadership will ensure our environment remains safe, respectful, and inclusive, empowering all learners to achieve success and stand proud in their identity.

In return, we offer a stunning rural setting, an incredible environment for purposeful outdoor learning, and a deeply supportive community with passionate staff and amazing children.
