Te Kura Tuarua o Horomaka Hillmorton High School Canterbury

Relief Co-ordinator

  • Full-time
  • Fixed-term (28 Jan 2027 to 27 Jan 2028)

About the role

It is an exciting time to join Te Kura Tuarua o Horomaka | Hillmorton High School. We are a vibrant, fast-growing Year 7–13 coeducational school of over 1,400 students, situated in south-west Christchurch. Grounded in our core values of Tūrangawaewae, Whanaungatanga, Ako, and Mana, we provide a supportive and inclusive environment where every student is known, valued, and empowered to achieve their personal best.

As a result of our growth, we have had the opportunity to develop our buildings to include a new middle school block, a recently opened new gym and a new science block opening in November. Our expanding kura offers an inspiring, future-focused space for our students and passionate educators to thrive.

Commencing Term 1 2027, we are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, relational and committed NZ registered teacher to join our school. This is a newly created 1-year fixed-term project position to evaluate whether a dedicated project relief coordinator improves operational efficiency, relief coverage and staff support. If the project is successful then the role could become permanent in the future.

This role comes with 1 management unit (MU). Responsibilities include managing and recording daily teacher relief (sickness, PLD, and leave), planning ahead for scheduled absences, and sourcing relievers via the 'StaffSync' app. There is also a requirement to teach 20 periods of relief each week. The amount of relief teaching may be less than 20 hours depending on administrative duties and daily relief demand.

A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the understanding and ability to teach using culturally responsive and relational pedagogy is essential.

The successful applicant must be a NZ registered teacher and be willing to commit to our co-curricular programme also.
