Te Kura Tuarua o Horomaka Hillmorton High School Canterbury

Year 7 and 8 Teacher

  • Part-time (0.6 FTTE)
  • Fixed-term (28 Jan to 16 Dec 2027)

About the role

Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the South-West of Christchurch. The school is a fast-growing Year 7–13 school with dedicated middle and senior schools. We have a roll of around 1,400 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase in the next few years.  We provide students with a caring and supportive environment, to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills and a love of learning.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable and collaborative kaiako to join our Year 7 and 8 teaching team in a part-time position.

The successful applicant will take responsibility for planning, leading and delivering engaging learning programmes within a Year 8 classroom, working alongside the classroom kaiako who will be released to deliver a targeted mathematics acceleration programme.

This position requires a confident practitioner who can independently lead learning, maintain continuity and foster positive relationships with ākonga.

We are looking for a kaiako who:

  • demonstrates strong curriculum knowledge and effective teaching practice, particularly within Years 7 and 8
  • is confident planning, leading, assessing and reporting on learning, both independently and collaboratively
  • builds positive, inclusive relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues
  • is digitally capable and confident using Student Management Systems (SMS) and Google Workspace to support planning, assessment, reporting and effective classroom practice
  • demonstrates culturally responsive and relational teaching practices
  • is flexible, organised and adaptable to the needs of a collaborative teaching environment.

Flexibility to work across most days of the school week is essential, as teaching responsibilities will be scheduled around the delivery of the mathematics acceleration programme.

This is an opportunity to join a supportive and committed team dedicated to improving learning outcomes and supporting the success of all ākonga.

The successful applicant must be a NZ registered teacher and also be willing to commit to our co-curricular programme.
