Te Kura o Kimi Ora Hawke's Bay

Scale A Teacher

  • Full-time
  • Fixed-term (29 Jan to 17 Dec 2027)
  • Suitable for beginning teachers

About the role

At Te Kura o Kimi Ora, connection is at the heart of learning. Our connections to whānau, whenua, language, culture and identity shape who we are and how we teach.

We believe every tamaiti brings strengths, gifts and potential. Guided by Te Ara Whakamana, our responsibility is to recognise and nurture that potential through interactions that enhance mana and mauri. We seek a kaiako whose teaching philosophy reflects this commitment and who will bring it to life within their classroom.

The year-level placement is open across our kura and will be considered alongside the successful applicant’s strengths, experience and the needs of our tamariki. Experience is preferred; beginning teachers who demonstrate strong alignment with our kaupapa are also warmly encouraged to apply.

We seek a reflective professional who brings sound judgement, emotional maturity and strong values to their teaching. You will lead with warmth and clear expectations, establishing a classroom where tamariki feel safe, respected and ready to learn.

Mana-enhancing classroom practice means understanding the learner, explicitly teaching expectations and responding calmly and consistently when challenges arise. It means supporting tamariki to recognise emotions, regulate their responses, take responsibility and restore relationships while preserving their dignity and sense of belonging.

Predictable routines, meaningful rituals, positive acknowledgement and opportunities for tamariki to lead are important ways of building this learning culture.

Our languages, cultures and identities are central to classroom life. We seek someone who can draw thoughtfully on pūrākau, mātauranga Māori and local knowledge to make learning meaningful and connected to the lives of our tamariki.

We value authentic relationships with whānau and respect for the knowledge and guidance of mana whenua and our Māori and Pasifika communities.

All applicants should demonstrate a commitment to strengthening culturally responsive practice and their own language capability.
