About the role
Whāia te ara tika | Pursue the right path
Tāmaki Primary School is a culturally rich and diverse Years 1 to 8 kura, proudly serving our community since 1951. We sit between our tūpuna maunga, Maungarei, and the beautiful awa of Te Waimokoia, leading out to Te Wai o Taiki.
Our community is vibrant, connected and spans generations. Our ākonga are warm, funny, spirited and genuinely awesome. They bring a wealth of language, culture, identity and lived experiences to their learning. We want a teacher who recognises their strengths, believes wholeheartedly in their potential, and builds warm, demanding, learning-focused relationships with ākonga and whānau that challenge, inspire and empower our learners to achieve.
Our kura offers four distinctive learning pathways:
- Te Puna Wairua, Rumaki Reo Māori (full immersion).
- Talamuka-‘a-Tonga, Lea Faka-Tonga bilingual.
- Penina o Tāmaki, Gagana Sāmoa bilingual.
- Te Whānau Kahukura, English medium.
We seek a motivated, enthusiastic and reflective kaiako to lead learning in our new entrant classroom within Te Whānau Kahukura.
We seek someone who brings a commitment to equity and social justice, and an understanding of North East pedagogy. Strong, culturally responsive relationships with ākonga and whānau are essential.
Importantly, we seek a kaiako who shares the aspirations of Ngāti Pāoa, as mana whenua, for the revitalisation of te reo Māori. The successful applicant must demonstrate high proficiency in te reo Māori, with the capability to teach through English while incorporating Level 3 Māori-medium immersion (21–50%) from the beginning of 2027. We are committed to offering whānau an English medium education enriched by meaningful opportunities to learn and learn through te reo Māori.
This position is particularly suited to an education-based trainee teacher who meets these expectations and welcomes coaching and mentoring.
