About the role

Whāia te ara tika | Pursue the right path

Tāmaki Primary School seeks an exceptional educational leader to join our kura as tumuaki tuarua | deputy principal.

Located in Panmure, Auckland, we are a diverse Years 1–8 kura offering four distinct learning pathways: Rumaki Reo Māori, Tongan bilingual, Samoan bilingual and English medium. Language, culture, identity and belonging are central to who we are.

Guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our values of rangatiratanga, manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga, we pursue equity and excellence while honouring the aspirations of our learners, whānau and community.

We seek a leader who inspires others, builds trusting relationships, maintains high expectations and leads with courage and heart.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Curriculum and assessment: Leading the New Zealand Curriculum across English-medium and Pacific bilingual pathways, in collaboration with our Pouārahi Rumaki, who leads Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
  • Learning support: Leading LSC/SENCO functions and inclusive education.
  • Pastoral care: Strengthening wellbeing, attendance, engagement and school culture.
  • Professional leadership: Coaching, mentoring and developing staff capability.
  • Relationships: Building partnerships with learners, staff, whānau, mana whenua and agencies.
  • Operations: Strengthening school systems and effectiveness.
  • Strategic leadership: Driving improvement alongside the Tumuaki and leading the kura in their absence.

You will have the trust, autonomy and responsibility to make meaningful decisions and lead positive change.

We welcome established senior leaders and aspiring principals ready for their next step.

Teaching and leadership release: Terms 1–2 will involve approximately 2–3 teaching days weekly, with the remaining time allocated to leadership. Full leadership release is intended from Term 3.

If you are ready to take genuine responsibility, bring others with you and shape the future of a kura committed to equity and excellence, we invite you to join us.
