Kaiako Māori – Te Reo Māori me ngā Tikanga Māori
- Full-time
- Fixed-term (27 Jan 2027 to 27 Jan 2028)
- 2MMAs for the suitable candidate.
- Suitable for beginning teachers
About the role
We are seeking an inspiring kaiako Māori to grow te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and te ao Māori at Albany Senior High School Ōkahukura Mātua.
Our kaupapa is to nurture-inspire-empower, ensuring every ākonga is known, supported and challenged to succeed. As a senior secondary school, we connect academic learning with the real world and support young people to pursue their strengths and aspirations.
You will teach and develop our senior te reo Māori and te ao Māori programmes and support Māori student leadership. Strengths and experience in leading kapa haka are highly desirable, including building participation, developing performance skills and nurturing pride in Māori identity.
You will also contribute to two distinctive features of learning at ASHS:
- Impact projects: Mentor ākonga as they design and lead purposeful projects connected to real needs, interests and community aspirations. Bring your expertise in te ao Māori to support authentic learning, with opportunities in language, Māori arts, heritage and community kaupapa.
- Tutorial: Build strong relationships with a group of ākonga, supporting their wellbeing, learning goals and progress. Work alongside whānau and colleagues to ensure each learner has an advocate and no one falls through the cracks.
Working alongside colleagues, whānau and our iwi partner, Te Kawerau ā Maki, you will strengthen opportunities for ākonga to achieve as Māori and enrich cultural understanding across our school.
We welcome a collaborative kaiako who brings strong capability in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori, effective teaching practice, and a commitment to relationships that support rangatahi to thrive. There is scope to shape the role around your strengths and our school’s priorities.
Please state other subjects/supporting subjects/list curriculum areas and teaching experience.
