About the role

Northern Health School's Taupō unit is based in a new purpose-built facility on Kōtare Street. We are currently a team of six Kaiako and one administration/teacher aide support person, working across a wide geographical area including Taupō, Tūrangi, Broadlands, Taumarunui, and Waimarino. While most of our ākonga are based in Taupō or Tūrangi, our role involves supporting learners and whānau across the wider region.
We are looking for a flexible, relationship-focused Kaiako who is passionate about supporting ākonga to achieve educational success, strengthen their hauora, and transition successfully.
We invite applications from experienced and fully registered primary or secondary teachers with strong knowledge of the New Zealand curriculum. Ideally, you will have experience teaching at the primary level as well as older ākonga. We are also looking for experience, or a willingness, to teach other year levels across a range of subject areas. Teachers work with students across a spectrum of years and subjects on either an individual basis or in small groups.
Northern Health School is a Ministry of Education funded school. We provide education and transition support for Y0-14 students whose health impacts their ability to attend school fulltime. Permanent teachers at our school are eligible for a health school management unit, a special duties allowance and a high-priority teachers’ allowance.
School management and administration is predominantly based in Auckland with school units in centres throughout the north island from Kaitaia to Gisborne, Taupo and Taranaki.
Ability to speak Te Reo Māori (some proficiency through to fluency) and an understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga Māori, and culturally responsive practice an advantage.
This position is also being advertised in Primary/Intermediate (years 1-8) section.
