Music Teacher

Te Kura Waenga o Motutawa | Avalon Intermediate School is a great community to work in, where a student centred approach guides everything we do. Our vision, Ka mahi tahi tātou, ka taua tātou | working as one so we all succeed, applies just as much to our staff as it does to our ākonga.

We have a permanent 0.4 position, two days a week, for a registered teacher to lead music across the school from 2027. You will teach classroom music to all our Year 7 and 8 classes on a specialist rotation, and grow our groups and ensembles so more of our young people get to create, perform and belong.

Key responsibilities

Plan and teach engaging music programmes for all Year 7 and 8 classes, aligned with Te Mātaiaho

Lead and grow music groups and ensembles, such as bands and choir

Build strong relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues

Contribute to wider school life, including performances and events

Take part in professional learning and keep growing your practice

Key attributes

Registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

Strong music skills, ideally across more than one instrument or style

A genuine passion for working with early adolescents

A collaborative approach and a good sense of humour

Our staff look after each other. We have fun and do little kindnesses, raise problems early and respectfully, do what we say we will, and offer and ask for help early.
