Special Education Needs Coordinator SENCO

Ao Tawhiti Unlimited Discovery is a designated character state school based in Ōtautahi Christchurch’s central business district. We have a fundamental tenet that the child is central in directing their own learning so that enthusiasm and love of learning is retained. Our students value the choice, flexibility and respect that our style of education provides them.

Our core values are whanaungatanga, kaha, aroha, whakaute and tiakitanga. These values are present in everything we do.

Sadly, our SENCO is retiring and we are looking for an exceptional SENCO to replace her. The successful candidate will be a fully registered teacher who is flexible and innovative in their practice. They will have a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and how to embed culturally sustaining practice to support success for all our students. They will also have a strong understanding of how to support inclusive education practices, navigate the external resources available through the Ministry of Education and other support networks. The successful candidate will be the line manager for teaching assistants, so experience leading staff, supporting Special Assessment Conditions and managing resources would be helpful.

We ask that interested candidates come into Ao Tawhiti for a tour before submitting an application as we are different to the majority of schools in Aotearoa.
