Akaroa Area School Canterbury

Primary Homeroom Teacher, 0.5 FTE Permanent

  • Part time
  • Permanent
  • 0.5 FTTE

About the role

Akaroa Area School is a small rural school nestled in the picturesque township of Akaroa on the stunning Banks Peninsula. We are well resourced, enjoy small class sizes, and are fortunate to have a highly supportive school community.

With one of our valued primary teachers retiring, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate New Zealand registered teacher to join our team from the beginning of 2027. The successful applicant will have strengths in structured literacy and mathematics. Experience teaching in multi-level classrooms, along with strong primary curriculum knowledge, would be an advantage.

We are looking for a teacher who is well planned, organised and flexible, and who will enjoy the variety of opportunities and responsibilities that come with working in a small school. You will be a reliable and collaborative team member who builds strong relationships with students, colleagues and whānau. A good sense of humour is definitely a bonus!

Our school values are woven through our programmes and practice. As an Enviroschool, we place strong emphasis on kaitiakitanga, sustainability and learning through our unique local environment. We also deeply value our connections with tangata whenua and the opportunities these relationships provide to strengthen local curriculum, identity, language, culture and a strong sense of place for our ākonga.

Akaroa is a stunning harbourside community, offering an enviable lifestyle while being only around an hour’s drive from Christchurch. A schoolhouse may also be available if required.

This is a permanent 0.5 FTTE position, based in our Phase 1 classroom, Kōkōhia.

If you are looking for a change of pace, the opportunity to make a real difference, and a great work–life balance, we would love to hear from you.
